Removing Carpet Adhesive from hardwood

04/25/2005 10:41 PM renovatinglady

Hello. I'm new to this board.

I recently purchased an older home with ancient carpets, however, all of the closets have beautiful hardwood...so with fingers crossed, I pulled the carpets up.

Upon pulling out the old carpets, I found hardwood floors that look like they've never seen the light of day. My only problem is that there is an adhesive on the areas where the carpet was pieced and the foam backing of the carpet deteriorated badly.

I lightly scraped most of the foam backing off with an old atm card, but, adhesive still remains. Can I remove the adhesive without taking off the original finish? Can I use a general adhesive remover?

Thanks for your help!
