Removing Moss from Wood Decks and Concrete

12/22/2001 04:12 PM Chromedome32

What is the least involved way to clean off cedar decks and concrete that will not affect any of my landscaping around these?

ps. I don't want to buy a pressure washer :-)

Hi Chromedome32,

Moss, or Mold/Mildew?

To prevent this from occurring, you need to open up the canopy of trees and start pruning low-level vegetation. Increase the sunlight and airflow and your problem will most likely go away.

As far as removing this stuff, if it's M/M, you can buy a remover from the Home Center. They are bio-friendly. A pressure washer can be rented. It's faster and does a better job. You DO want to clean the deck a little first with a hose to remove what you can with some pressure. Otherwise, the Remover will only get absorbed by the M/M, dirt, and/or Moss and be useless. Whatever you 'apply' to the surface, all 'solids' should be removed. If you use a pressure washer, you don't have to do this step.

My best to ya and hope this helps.

Removing Moss from Wood Decks and Concrete

Jay,

Thanks for your info. The moss problem is in my lawn. Unfortunately, I will be unable to trim my trees because I have about 8 100ft tall doug furs blocking my south and west sides of my property. I cut back the watering considerably - we'll see what happens next year. Thanks for the M/M idea too. I will see what our Home Depot has.

Happy Holidays to all!
