We want to open up our kitchen by removing soffits that exist above the cabinets. The soffits are tiled so the job is a little more involved than usual.

Is there an easy way to determine if the soffit is covering any plumbing or central air duct work before actually breaking through the tile and dry wall?? We just bought the house, so we don't know the history.
