Removing paint on deck

09/20/2008 08:16 AM NYman02

The deck is about 450sq ft. I'm in the process of re-doing the finish but here's the problem.
On the surface there is white paint on the deck. The paint on the railing is in fairly good condition and the floor boards have that typical weathered look but the paint is still there. I purchased some BEHR stain and finish remover to get it out. I'm applying the stripper as per instructions and then using a power washer to remove the paint. What i'm now seeing is that there is another layer of white paint under there and then also a layer of red paint!! 3 coats of paint!
I removed most of the 1st coat in one day but it was very labor intensive plus each gallon of stripper is $20. Used 3 gallons already. The deck still has a lot of paint remaining on it.
At this point I was just thinking of getting someone to sand everything off to save time. Is this a possibility?? Or do I keep going at it with the stripper??(i'd rather not!)
