Replacing Subflooring

The subflooring in a small bedroom needs to be replaced. Someone recommended "scabbing" by cutting the subflooring near the wall studs, then putting down new plywood. Is this the best way to do this?

As long as as the wood left behind is in good shape, scabbing is a very old practice.
