Replacing sash cords

03/24/2003 08:11 PM mjcrumpl

I own a ***** & Roebuck home in need of window sash cord replacement. There are no "pockets" in the lwindow track to allow access to the cords/weights, so I removed the interior window trim, and the wall is plastered right up to the window frame, so no access there, either. Has anyone run across this situation? Will I need to cut the plaster to gain access? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Replacing sash cords

mj,

Have you looked very carefully at the jamb about 6 inches up from the bottom. The cut in the jamb could be obscured by paint or covered with a zinc weatherstripping.

Since you have already removed the casing, assuming a wide molding, removing some plaster should not create a problem. It might be easier to install replacement aluminum jamb liners, depending if you like the look of them or if you want to keep it original.
