I live in the centrall valley of California and our summers here are brutial 99-105 daily (but it's a dry heat...right)anyway the home I recently purchased was built sometime in the 40-50s and has about 3" of rockwool insulation in the attic none in the side walls. My question is that when I wake up in the morning the outside temp. is cooler that the inside temp. Keep in mind this is after tuning off the A/C or evap. cooler durring the night because it was too cold in the house. Its as if the walls and celings are giving off there retained heat. I have installed a attic fan to keep the temp down up there and a misting system to keep the West side of the house from getting hotter that it would otherwise(about a 10-20)temp. reduction with them on. Anyone have any thoughts?

Is your house brick or stone? They hold a lot of heat. I would have guessed the attic to be the problem. Did you notice a big difference when the attic fan was installed? (Is this an attic ventilator that cools the attic or a house/attic fan that pulls air through the house and into the attic?) If it's the latter, I suggest you add a thermostat controlled attic ventilator fan. More blown insulation in the attic wouldn't hurt either. 3" isn't much.
