I am having to replace my entire roof after it was damaged during the Super Tuesday storms here in KY. Currently I only have gable vents and very poor air circulation. What is my best option for a single story ranch? Rigde vents I have heard are great in the summer but you lose heat in winter. Powered vents work great but they cost you what you may save over other vents. Thanks.

"Natural" ventalation with low and high vents is the best.

For low use sofit vents. If there is place for the sofit vents then there is a venting system that can be put under the lower edge of the roof.

And ridge vents for the top. Then close off the gable vents.

The purpose of venting is to allow any moisture that moves from the house into the attic to escape without condensing.

The gable vent can cause the air movement to "short circuit" and not move air through all of the attic.

And to keep the attic cool enough so that you don't get ice damming. But you won't get much in Ky anyway.

Insulation and seal is used to keep the heat in the house. Not the roof.
