Roof flashing technique

Image for: Roof flashing technique

I recently had my old house re-roofed. I'm not pleased with what the contractor did with the flashing over the front door. He redid the flashing and it looks as bad as it did before I complained. I consulted a retired carpenter. His spin on the flashing was a lazy contractor. The contractor states this is the only to way to accomplish the flashing without residing the house. I have before and after pics. I've searched the web for flashing techniques and haven't found pics or a technique for an overhang V roof over an entrance door. Do I have a reason to be unhappy with the finished product??

I hope you haven`t paid in full !!

That is in-expierianced and un-professional and would walk in small claims court should the contractor decide to abandon you.

Some advice,......Before roofing, take a sawsall and cut into the siding dead even with the sheething but not into it if you can. All the lenghth of the run. Measure at the bottom,..middle...top of peak one inch an make a mark. Snap a chaulk line from bottom to top. The middle should land on the line. If not,.. use the line to make adjustments so a dip wont remove more than one inch above the bottom cut. Reverse for a bow. Cut the final line with a curcular saw, preferably a cordless. Pull the nails for siding next to the cuts. remove the material inside the lines + nails. Stepflash normally as you roof up. Cap both stepflashings last with a small piece of lead.

It`s what I`d do !!

.....Oh,.....make sure the first stepflashing drains on top of the siding below the roof, and never behind it. You may need to show a little to get this important procedure.
