Have you considered natural slate? It's incredibly durable, and will last (at least) several decades. There are a variety of slates that are "unfading" - which means they won't weather much over the years. Others are called "weathering" - in which case, some slates will turn buff, brown or pink, while others remain the original color. You can also purchase salvaged slate, which has a long, useful life and will already be weathered - so you can see the final color.
