My husband and I run a home repair business. Lately we have been seeing a lot of MW windows with the sill rotting due to a leak through the window frame. There may be a design flaw that prevents the windows from being properly sealed. We'd like to find out how wide-spread this problem is. If you have experienced a similar problem with MW windows, please post a reply describing the problem, the age of the windows, and your state.

I just found out tonight my builder has changed windows from another brand, American something I think..., to MW Windows. I'm very concerned about this from what I read.

Sadly I don't have the BRAND name anywhere in writing, just that they must be double hung, vinyl, double pane.

What if any have you heard? Can I contact you directly?

If they are the same MW windows that were put into my house almost 5 years ago, you should be worried. I had all my back windows replaced because they leak so bad. If you google Tadian homes/lawsuit, you should find some articles about the lawsuit that talks about these windows. If you need more info, e-mail me....

In a blowing rain these windows leak badly. A
fixed window in a dormer has done extensive
damage to the wall below it. MW and my builder

OUr home is 4 years old and we used M & W casement windows...we have a problem with one window rotting....we can't find a contractor in our area to replace ...we live in Atlanta...how do suggest I locate someone....thanks, sara www.sara179@charter.net

Our house was built in 2004 and we have had problems with our MW windows, too.

While under construction 3 installed fixed windows leaked and MW sent the independent contractor they use to reseal the windows. That stopped those leaks.

Last Dec. after living in our house for 2 weeks, the builder finally sent a window washer to clean the windows. The window washer used a 5 inch razer blade to clean the windows. There were no labels to remove-he just used the blade all over the glass! Well. MW window glass is VERY soft- especially the tempered glass. 12 of our windows were scratched beyond repair.

It has taken 1 year to have all 12 pieces of glass replaced. We have had MW send wrong windows, windows with large scratches in between the twin glass, windows with no low-e when my originals have low e, wrong grid patterns, and one had lost its low e seal .I complained to MW about their quality control issues.MW uses a couple of different companies to make the glass for them so MW would just say it was out of their control.

The installers MW uses did not show up on several occasions when they said they would.
They were terrible about returning phone calls. The installers forgot to seal one of the windows and after water leaking in for 2 months they finally came out and sealed it.

The last set of replacement glass was placed in two windows 2 weeks ago. We had a wind driven rain on Tuesday and water poured in from a large 6x6 window. drywall is badly damaged.

I called the installers who promised to show up yesterday. They did not show up. I called MW and complained( for the umpteenth time!) and today they sent their own technician. The installers did not seal the glass completely. There were large gaps of missing silicone and one window had no silicone at the top. The tech took lots of photos and resealed the glass himself.

We plan on being in this house a long time and I am very concerned about the long term durability of MW windows.


My builder still uses MW windows even though he is aware of my problems with MW and their installers.

I hope today will be the end of a one year long , very stressful situation.

Do you have your warrenty info?

I posted on the MW rotting seal post about my situation. Fortunately our house was still under the builders warranty when we had our MW problems.

The MW tech told me today that I should check the silicone seal at least once a year to make sure it is still intact and that after 10 years or so I may need to have silicone added to insure the seal.

I looked at my MW warranty and it only applies to the original home owner. Are you the original owners? The warranty is very limited and of course benefits MW over the consumer.

YES, I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEMS. HOUSE LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD. WINDOW SASH BUBBLING UP CRACKING AND THE WOOD IS EXPOSED.I'M SICK. THEY SAID THEY COULD FIX IT WITHOUT REPLACING THE WINDOWS. I HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS. WINDOWS ARE VINLY CLAD.

DON'T DO IT. MY WINDOWS ARE AWFUL LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD.
