I am wanting to run cold water to my unheated workshop. The workshop is 50' feet away from the house (water source in basement). I plan on running 1" K copper tubing 4ft beneath ground from basement to workshop. The need for the water is for a wash tub (Sink) so I can wash tools and my hands etc. My problem is, how should I go about bringing the water pipe into the garage to prevent it from freezing in the winter, if I plan on using water during winter? Is my only option a Yard Hydrant or a heated yard hydrant? If so do you know which model would be the most convenient for ease of use?

Instead of running type "K" copper, I would run wirsbo pex tubing with a electric heat tape wrapped in a foam insulation. This way, if you forget to turn on the heat, the pipe won't break and the heat tape will thaw it out. Many people sleeve the PEX in 2" pvc and run the heat tape. I like insulation better. By the way, if it freezes down to where the copper is, it will break.
