Safety Repair Required After Sears Installation

03/02/2008 08:24 AM pagroundhog

Sears installation neglected to install the safety clamp/ring on the appliance electrical cord. This clamp/ring is intended to keep the cord from rubbing against the metal pass-through hole in the appliance after installation. When I formally complained to Sears about this issue, they did nothing so I went to the local Sears store and they gave me a new cord (for free) which I installed myself. Just for the record, the old cord (2 days old) was nicked and cut by the sharp edges of the pass-through hole during improper installation (I presume). I also tried to post a candid review of this product on the Sears website and they refused to post it and never responded as to why. Just an honest caution to keep a watchful eye on these minimum wage Sears installation crews.

Anti-tip brackets

As I replied to your other forum message:

Were the range's anti-tip brackets installed (see the link below)?

If not, I would certainly formally (*in writing*) make a complaint to Sears whom should send someone out to correct that (and maybe refund part/all of any installation fees previously paid due to the poor and potentially dangerous job).

Do not use a range without anti-tip brackets in place!
