Home Security System?

01/21/2005 11:41 PM BubbaBob

IM new to these forums, so if this question has been asked time and time again, please excuse my ignorance.

I need a decent but cheap ($150MAX) security system. NO motions sensors. Maybe, 16- or so contact switches. I was looking at an X10 system, but someone on these forums said they were crap.

ALso, id like something that i can hook up and control with my PC. WOuld this also
save money on a base station for the system?

I dont know a whole lot about this type of stuff, but what shoudl i get, and what other info might you need?

ALso, HArdwired is fine.

Thanks

OK, $35 for one door/window sensor??? I cant afford that, so, looking at the X10 again, what about this X10 model?

Cheap but effective

Thats your run of the mill basic home system. It's a base package that is meant to be greatly upsold. However with good planning it could perform as an effective deterant. It will not provide the protection of a custom security system by a professional. as usual custom comes at a price so for your price range yes that's a fine system however monitoring is something to concider as well.

Overlooked missing contacts

Sorry, I hadn't noticed that kit didn't include any contacts. ADT BRINKS ETC will often times have a 4 doors and a motion deal where you can get a decent basic kit installed for 100 or so bucks. Why don't you want motions? The contacts for 35$ were likely wireless. A wired door contact is worth less than 7$.

Oh,Were you talking about the one from homesecuritystore.com? I thought you ment the X10. The contacts are wired, so i cant see why they are so $$.

Check out the wireless Skylink DIY security systems at the link below, those do not require monthly monitoring fees and are inexpensive:
