Series 90 Washer

12/11/2007 07:06 PM Dsarge

I have the above washer. While removing the inner basket, I had to lay it down on its side. Somewhere in the process, the basket/tub became unbalanced or off center so when its spins it shakes vigorously. It does it empty or with a load. Any suggestions how to re-center it?

It appears, after not letting this problem die, that there are two semi transparent tubes each containing a brass pin about 1.5-2" long underneath the platform the tub rest on. Each pin has a hole at the end. Is this pin suppose to be inserted somewhere. As it is, it is just sitting in the tube and I cannot find a purpose for it. Do these pins need to be somewhere and could they be the culprit of the excessive shaking? Ideas?

More information needed...

** Series 90 Washer **

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number ("90 Series" isn't it).

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

- Model Number Tag Search
LINK > www.appliance411.com/parts/tagsearch.cgi

I'm also assuming this is a Kenmore washer since you never stated its brand?

** I had to lay [the washer] down on its side. **

That shouldn't be necessary and can negatively affect the internal suspension on some washer designs. It is best to avoid servicing a washer that way.

** it is just sitting in the tube and I cannot find a purpose for it. **

You may be describing the remnants of the washer's original shipping brace system.

See the posting and response at the following link:

On that design of washer if you lay the machine on its side, the suspension plate will often move out of place if the shipping pins have been removed (like they should have been during the original installation). You can read about what may be involved to correct that condition at the following link.

- Washer moves around too much:

It could possibly also be caused by a problem with the mentioned components themselves which might then need replacing.

Working again

12/16/2007 04:30 PM Dsarge

I'm not sure if I can take credit for this or not, but after confirming the pins mentioned were in fact shipping pins I followed the links provided and felt the misaligned plates were the issue. The unit was already on its front so I could "repair my repair". After a look, it appear the plate was indeed aligned. After reassempbly, it appeared to be working fine. I'm assuming it realigned after I layed it down. Despite this, just wanted to say thanks for your assistance. I'll recommend your site to others. Merry Christmas.
