I live in a 4-story brownstone in New York that was built in 1890. The engineer who inspected the building said it was structurally sound, but lately we have noticed that the house rumbles, shakes, or vibrates when large trucks or buses drive by. We think this may be related to structural problems with the street we live on, which has had cave-in and sinking pavement. How concerned should I be about possible structural damage to my home, either as a result of the shaking itself or as a result of deterioration in the road in front of the house? |
