I have just had a home inspector tell me that my roof was not in compliance with code. Basically, he told me that the plywood used for sheathing the roof is required to have a small gap in between each sheet. I have spoken with a few contractors and they have said this practice is not always adhered to. Does anyone out there have any idea what long term problems this could cause, if any? Is it something that we should worry about even if the attic is properly ventilated?

1/8" gap is required between sheets for expansion, There is no major problem as there are still 30 yr old comp roofs standing that have no spacing between the sheathing.
By the way, the sheeting could have been spaced when installed....older OSB would have expanded and taken up the space.

If it's not too late:
Is this a new house being built or is it one that's been arounc for awhile?
If it's just being built, and the plywood is still exposed, you could theoretically set a circular saw to just the right depth and make the 1/8 inch slots at the edges of the plywood before completing the roofing.
