Shower Control Valve

10/04/2005 11:55 PM LSx2Len

I have a delta single valve shower (mixet) type shower control. I get good water pressure on the cold side, but hardly any water pressure on the hot side.

Any ideas as to the cause and how to remedy it?

Setting or cartridge

You may have an internal setting that is set to low hot water temperature. Some balancing valves will have this type of problem. In addition, if the balancing parts are stuck, the hot side may not come on. Most single lever valves turn on the cold first and then move to the hot side.

Another thing can happen is debris can get in behind the spring loaded seat and block off the hot water supply. This is sometimes behind the cartridge inside the body of the faucet.

Depending on the number of the delta faucet, you could also have an internal valve turned down. Sometimes behind the chrome plate, there are two maintenance valves. These are used to turn off the faucet so you can work on it. Once in a while they are turned down or get filled with debris.
