Shower Tub installation questions

01/03/2008 06:24 PM mckenzie1975

Hi,
I am installing a shower/tub in my basement. For the plumbing I already had a drain protruding from the slab and discovered that to bust out the slab to install a P-Trap I had to rent a jack hammer. This was money well spent. When I put the single piece Shower tub into the corner of the wall (tub has three sides and I am going to build the third wall later) I discovered that the drain pipe orginally installed was approximately 2 inches too close to the wall and would not allow for plug and play installation into the overflow or drain for the tub. Additionally, I suspect that no P-Trap was installed. To work around this I put a pipe adjacent to the drain pipe that was already installed. At the bottom of the new pipe I put in a P-Trap and connected it to a 90 degree pipe that in turn was attached to another 90 degree pipe which then plugged into a T Joint pipe I put on the original drain pipe. The end result is two pipes next to each other with a U shapped piping joining them. The reason I used the T joint pipe was so I could attach the round about drain and hook the drain up to a vent with the top section of the T. Drainage appears great but I wanted to know if I should have any concerns about being out of code?

Also, on the drain for the tub it appears to be leaking from the rubber seal beneath the tub where the drain joint pushes up against the bottom. My question here is can I use plumber's putty beneath the chrome drain that screws into the drain hole to fix this problem or am I going to have redo the piping to make a perfect fit?

Thanks!!
