I have a contractor currently working on my house. I had him leave the fascia that was in place so it can be covered by aluminum. The current fascia is a 1x8 with a 1x4 on top of it for a layered look.

Here is the problem...once the cedar shakes were taken off and foam board insulation was put on I am now out 3/4" from the underlayment. Once you put the corner post on the top of the insulation the corner post is extending slightly past the fascia. The corner post terminates at the bottom of the fascia (butts up against the 1x8 board). My concern is water getting behing the corner post (it is 4" corner and there is no flashing on the corners just the insulation boards butted together). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do here? He is already 1/2 done so I need a solution that will work retro. I have thought about using some flashing to make a drip edge and then wedge that b/w the top of the corner post and the soffit, using vinyl trim (if they make such a thing) to attach it to the bottom of the fascia to bring it out past the top of the corner post....any other ideas?
