Silentite window sash removal

12/09/2003 07:23 PM sail2relax1

I have Curtis Silentite double hung windows that are so heavily painted they need to be completely striped and repainted. However, I have been unable to determine how to remove the sash. Does any one know the process for removing the sashes?

How to remove Silentite Sash

12/30/2004 09:21 AM sail2relax1

I discovered the secret soon after trying to strip the paint off in place... They are very easy to remove. First, remove the stops using a putty knife. Then, and here is the trick, on the sash itself there are 2 screws on the front face. These screws hold the metal bead in place. The screws can be found about 2 inches from the top and the bottom of the sash. If you have heavily painted windows you may have to dig the paint out of the screws. Remove the 2 screws for one side. Now you need to slide the metal bead out. I did this by raising the sash and placing my putty knife under the sash so when I closed the sash it would slide the bead out when window is lowered. Then I grabbed the bead w/ pliers and pulled it the rest of the way out the top of the sash. One the bead is out the window will very easily pull right out. Good luck..

How to remove silentite sash

09/13/2005 02:03 PM jpschu

sail2relax1,
Thanks for the info on silentite sash removal. I got the lower sash out OK, but am having trouble with the top one. I have located the screws that hold in the track, but the sash is also held in place by 2 pieces that run vertically in front of it. I am un able to remove these. Any advice?
