The home I have just purchased was built in 1966. The entire plumbing system has been done, copper plumbing added. I live in Arizona, hot, hot, and then hot. Not a lot of rain. I do have a septic system. When I open my front door after coming in from work, I smell septic, and a musty odor. I have purchased enough air freshner's to buy Glade Corporation!
I have been in this home for two weeks. The former owner states he does need to get the septic certified, but is having trouble finding someone with a backhoe who "digs that deep". Interesting . . .
I daily flush all three tiolets, and run water in both bathtubs to make sure a flap isn't drying out. I wash clothes once to twice a week. There is no leaks, or signs of any past leaks that I can find, and a home inspection did occur.
When I bought the home, the musty smell was in here, but having the air conditioner turned off, and the house shut up for almost a month, well, I figured was the reason for the musty smell. Now I have some septic smell. There is no backup in the tiolets or bath tubs.
Any suggestions? Any possibility of mold smelling like this?
Thank you. I'm a health care professional, and am also concerned with my clothing smelling like, well . . . uck. My patients don't need to smell that! I will have guests here in about two weeks, and would like to have this stink gone.
I appreciate any help that is offered.
Thank you,
Donna
