Swamp Cooler Support Leg Damaging Roof Shingle

09/01/2006 12:41 PM dnstouffer

I could really use some advice; my friend recently had a swamp cooler installed. This swamp cooler stands on 4 support legs, the feet of the legs resting directly on the shingles (asphalt) of the roof (pitched). The problem is that due to the weight of the coooler, one of the feet is pushing through a shingle, creating a leak. How can I correct this situation so the foot has some support and is not directly damaging the shingle? My thought was sheet metal, but not sure if sheet metal should be placed underneath the shingle or directly underneath the foot of the cooler leg. Advice? Anybody else have experience with this situation?
