maytag washer won't stop draining

There is not usually any sort of drain valve on most clothes. The main washer motor turns one direction for wash and the opposite way for drain and spin. The pump is only capable of pumping when it turns in the right direction which is when the motor is turning in the spin direction.

If water drains out of the tub during the agitate phase of a cycle or when the machine is not running at all, I agree with Jeff that improper drain hose installation (see the following link) is a likely cause.

- My washer doesn't seem to be able to hold water. What's the problem?
