Termites in Winter ?

02/25/2003 06:21 PM Billjr

Are subterranean termites active in the winter months ? I live in Connecticut, and had them treated about 12 years ago. I am now doing some remodeling, and after opening the walls see evidence of termite damage, but no termites. I had this looked at by a professional in the area, and he said what I was seeing was damage from years ago. He said if they were still in the area, they would still be actice being that there is still some wood to soil contact. I consider this good news, but want to be sure that he is correct in saying that they remain active in the winter months. Anyone know for sure ?

Thanks, Bill

He may be correct about the damage, but usually they're inactive at this time. I would have it recchecked in the spring. Also, many folks believe that regular treats are not needed, but in the long run it will save you a lot of money and trouble.
