Tiling an Ourdoor Balcony (Portch Roof) |

I am about to tile an outdoor balcony (exposed to rain with slope for water runoff). The balcony has a room under it so it has to be absolutely waterproof. I am going to use 3/4inch underlayment, 1/2 backerboard with outdoor thinset adhesive. I was wondering what should I coat the backerboard with to make the surface extra waterproof. Do people embed membranes in the mortar the way it is done on showers? Do you waterproof underneath the backerboard? Patrik

When Bob tdid the show in Malibu, he said "Only in California can you have a deck made of plywood" The contractor said it was going to be hot mopped, and the satillo tile ionstalled on top of that. It sounded like there was no backerboard at all. Maybe a floating tile floor over the sealed plywood? I'm also looking for the right answer to this question. |
