Tough Stains on 30 Year Old Windows

07/20/1999 04:35 PM

We recently purchased a 3100 sq. ft. "A" frame home that needs plenty of work. There are two acres of beautiful oak trees but the windows have these awful water marks that I have tried everything on, including steel wool, vinegar, ammonia, etc.. Until we replace the windows, any suggestions out there on removing this film??

Sometimes a cleaner meant for tiles in the shower will do the trick in removing eons of mineral buildup. So, try some "scrubbing bubbles."

Another possibility is that paint or varnish hit the windows at some point, even sealing in the water marks. You'd need to use a paint remover (protect the frames first) and a straight-edged razor to scrape.

Please let me know if either of these solves the problem.
