Treated Lumber

Why do you need to seal treated lumber that is used for decks? What is the purpose of buying treated lumber if you have to seal it?

You stain, paint or seal treated lumber to preserve the look (it will weather grey) and to help keep the grain from raising. Treated lumber is treated to prevent rot and insect infestation by stabilizing the wood cells, but doesn't keep it from weathering.
