Rotting Trex

06/12/2009 11:03 AM Antchandler

I don't think freezing, cold weather or rain have anything to do with rotting Trex. I live in sunny Southern California where it never freezes and seldom rains, yet every other board is rotting/crumbling.

gapping

06/30/2009 04:35 PM seneca6

We installed a very large trex deck in 2001 using the trex gapping tool. Along with the continual maintaince and expense to keep the mold at check, several boards are lifting due to swelling. I believe they have changed the gap size from the 2001 recommendation to the current size. However, for those of us who are embarassed by our decks and out thousands of dollars, there is no help.

rotten trex

Our trex from 1995 is completely delamanted. Trex has agreed to pay for the decking only. What about the screws, trim boards, labor to remove it and reinstall, disposal fees?

They know they have a problem, but are still making the same product. I recommended the trex to a friend. His is two years old and looks terrible. Peeling, faded, swollen boards etc.

I will be delivering pieces of our deck to every lumber yard in our area so they can see what they are selling.

Selling a product you know is bad is a deliberate act.

trex decking

07/01/2009 09:33 PM TREXMONSTER

I am having a hard time finding a reciept from the contractor and they are having a hard time trying to get paperwork from REISTERSTOWN LUMBER COMPANY in Reisterstown , Maryland 21136, since this deck was built about 7 years ago. I have mold and fungus on my deck, the boards have swelled so that the gaps are almost not there anymore. The contractors used the green gapping tools that were to be used and I even have a picture of those gap tools sitting on the deck while it was being built. I also had some boards sag because it was 16" on centers and now iI hear that it is 12" on center.

Replacing defective Trex

07/08/2009 03:57 PM editor

Thanks Pat M (Trex Company) for your offer to help. I submitted a Trex concern package TX-52001 in April regarding our crumbling deck. An inspector came out and a Customer Service rep then wrote that Trex would replace all of the material.
I assume that this means something was wrong with the particular batch that we purchased. I supplied the batch number and purchase documentation.
I have written twice requesting that Trex also pay to remove the bad material and install the new, along with the cost of dump hauling and new screws.
I have not heard back for a while. If you want to help, please put me in touch with someone at Trex who has the authority to make cusomers whole again who purchased substandard material.
Thank you.

Trex Decking

I too have had all of the problems listed above. I am containing Trex to find out what they will do about replacing the boards. Right now I would be happy if they updated me to their latest and greatest product and I will cover the install costs.
