Use a hardwood floor nailer

In order to install prefinished hardwood floors you must use a hardwood floor nailer. You can use an air one or a manual one. I like the manual ones better as they seem to get the wood tighter. All the boards are nailed in the groove and only the edges where you can't get the nailer in are naile with finish nails. Hope this helps

You can't float the floor as it will buckle over time due to any variations in temperature or humidity. If a floating floor is what you want you should look into Pergo or some other type.
