My wife and I built a new house last year. I'm in the process of finishing our basement. We have poured concrete walls. I plan to hang dry wall but was unsure about using a vapor barrier and if so what kind? We live in Kentucky so we do have humid summers. Over the past year the basement has not had any problems with moisture. Any ideas?
I my opinion the best system is to used sheet foam that is sealed so that air can't get between it and the foundation. Then build a wall infront of it.
There is also foam with groves in it that you can use to put in furring strips rather than building a wall.
The foam is a vapor retarder, but more important keeps the surface warm enough that there is no condensation.
Both poly and fiberglass insulation can lead to a real mold mess.
