Vinyl tile over ceramic tile

08/05/2003 12:20 AM dbcoats

I have an old style ceramic tile floor with the small, different shaped, and ugly colored tiles. I have found a well priced vinyl tile (peel and stick) that matches my new colors for the room. Can I simply lay the new tiles over the ceramic tiles or do I need to do something to the floor first? If so, what do I need to do?

Vinyl tile over ceramic tile

if you are to install peel & place tiles over ceramic the floor must be smooth as glass,so you will need to level the floor using floor patch.it may prove impossible to get the floor smooth enough to lay the tiles.another option is to break out the existing ceramic tile, and its underlayment.put down new plywood underlayment, then install your new tile floor.....good luck
