Hey there. About a year ago, I had hired a contractor install insulation in my home. Not knowing that he only needed to insulate the floor of the attic, I had him insulate the rafters also. The vapor barrier is facing the living space, there's baffles behind the insulation/ at the ridge, etc. All was inspected and done well. I moved in after the insulation was finished. The insulation factor is R-19 to R-30, I believe. We also insulated under the wood floors, in the crawlspace area of the house (and laid down a vapor barrier to trap radon gasses under tarps).
Some background about my house... I live in the Catskills region (in the Hudson Valley in New York). We get lots of rain, so it's pretty wet out much of the time. My bedroom is underneath one of these attics that I had insulated (I have two attics, one small one over my bedroom and a large one over my office and living room). I also have hot water baseboard heat.
During the night, I literally wake with up with an extremely dry mouth. It's so dry in my bedroom that my tongue literally gets stuck to the roof of my mouth and my throat gets sore... Is this because the room is over-insulated?? What's causing this?
I tried a large room humidifier, but it's an awful lot of work keeping it clean to work properly. What can I do about this, anyone have any good suggestions? |
