I live in a condo that is almost 40years old and I need to replace the registers in the ceiling and on the walls. My problem is that the registers have been taken off and put back on so many times that the screws are not holding in the walls. Is there any type of new "housing" that I can put in so that I can buy new registers and put the new screws into the housing. I was going to try and use molly bolts but I was told that is not a good idea.

Most registers aren't meant to fasten into the wall itself, but rather into metal frames around the metal duct boots. It is possible to use metal brackets to fasten inside the accessable duct and come out to the area the screws attached to. New holes in the bracket can then support the new registers over the hole.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made. |
