Wall safe installation

12/20/2006 12:39 PM yuli1963

I would like to install an in-wall safe (weight, approximately 50 lbs). I checked the walls in my office, and it appears that the studs are metal, not wood. Is the installation method the same as for wooden studs ? Since the metal studs are not as rigid as the wooden ones, any concerns that the studs will bend, causing the drywall to warp and crack ? Thank you. YM

Installation of wall safe

Do not install a wall safe in metal studs!!

If you must install a wall safe, make sure you fit it in framed double studding. This will create a greater challenge for thieves as well as prevent drywall warping and cracking.
