What does the ceiling edge attach to when the wall is between joists? |

I am putting up a partition wall in my basement that runs parallel to the ceiling joists. It falls in between the joists so I am adding blocking between the joists to nail the top plate to. As I was doing that, a question popped into my mind. When I finally get around to drywalling the ceiling, what does drywall at the edge of the ceiling (where it meets the wall) attach to? I can certainly attach it to the blocking, but I was only planning the blocking to be 16" oc. Is that enough? I think the schedule for screws along the edge of a ceiling in 7" oc. I guess I could put the blocking at 8" oc.
The rock is a ways away at the pace I'm going but I wanted to know if something can I do now that will make my life easier when I get there. |

the drywall on the walls is what holds up the ceiling drywall between joists. some retro applications where they don't remove the drywall from the walls and just do the ceiling,,,, they add crown molding to hold the ceiling drywall up without chance of cracking the corners later.

Hey builder, it's a little hard to visualize what you are doing. If I've guessed right, and you really can't fasten to anything, you have to build in some brace that will work. Maybe get a buddy to drop by and consult you. Don't forget, in a jam, Liquid nails and crown moulding. Make it work. |
