Dear Builderguy,

I am compiling a list of homeowners and have contacted several attorneys. Send me an email and I will keep you posted.

It's not a matter of IF, it's a matter of WHEN --

GeoDeck Lawsuit

10/25/2007 08:14 AM geodeckman

Hi Builderguy,

I have been compiling a list of anyone with the GeoDeck problem and have been contacting attorneys like Paula. The more we contact the quicker we can get an attorney to take the case and a group of individuals to proceed against Kadant, Inc. There is power in numbers. If you could respond with an email address or phone number, I would like to get your information and discuss with you in more detail.

BTW...Kadant has a quarterly conference call/webcast this morning (Thursday 10/25/07)you can listen to. It is at 11:00am Eastern time and you can go to their website (kadant.com and go to investors section) or call 800-709-2159 and give the representative your information (shareholder & phone number). It will open your eyes to how financially sound this company is, etc.

I just made an appointment to see a laywer. I placed a claim with Geodeck over a year ago and havent settled anything. I cant even walk out my back door. The deck is unsafe. Holes in it, the rails have cracked and broken in places. I wont even let my dogs walk across it. I am diffinitely to the place of pursuring this with a lawyer. Anyone who is pursuing a class action lawsuit, or has already contacted a lawyer or settled with Kadant is welcome to contact me. I am willing to join a class action suit.

Hey Sunnylynn,

I am keeping a list of people who want ot join a class action lawsuit. Several of us are persuing our own attorney, but at some point we will probably join together.

You can reach me at paulabmoore@hotmail.com. You didn't leave a way to contact you except through this bulletin board.

Best,
Paula Moore

Geodeck lawsuit

11/04/2007 05:46 PM sbox00

I'm in the same boat - got letter from Kadant about no funds. Manager of local lumber co suggested I try to file a claim with LDI. Will do it, but have very little hope they'll honor the claim. I have my name on the list, also, with Paula. Maybe some day we'll get restitution, but in the meantime, we have unsafe decks and we're going to have to be the ones to pay for replacing a defective product. Also, will cost us more to replace now than what we originally spent the first time!!!

geodeck lawsuit

My understanding is that LDI has no legal liabilty for Geodeck. Their only exposure is the continued use of the name, which they probably have changed by now.

The real culprit is Kadant, Inc., a publicly traded company which sold Kadant Composites Inc to LDI, under the false claim that Kadant had created enough reserves to honor Geodeck claims. This misrepresentation was worth about ten million dollars, but Kadant, Inc is still operating and the appropriate target of a lawsuit.

Geodeck lawsuit - replacement costs

11/05/2007 12:51 PM ejensen

I've been researching replacement materials and have decided to go with Purple Heart decking (real wood!) and railings comprised of Ipe balusters and Purple Heart posts, railings, and railing caps. Surprisingly, the cost for the materials is only about 5% more than what we paid for Geodeck materials three and a half years ago! While labor costs might be an issue for some, fortunately (I think...?), I'll be doing our rebuild myself.

And then of course with real wood, there's that issue of annual maintenance...

Oh well, at least it won't fall apart in three years!

replacement material ??

I'm afraid composite has spoiled me. I'd still rather go with another composite - anyone done any research on what they plan to use to replace their GeoDeck??
