What's safe to put down the drain?

02/28/2008 09:37 PM bethnca

My husband shocked me by revealing that he puts coffee grounds down the drain. He even claimed that they keep the drain clean. What??!! I think he's asking for trouble. Opinions?

Thanks,
Beth B.

The coffee grounds are smaller than the output of a garbage disposal.

Depending on the waste line piping material (galvanized) and if short radius fittings are used such as a drainage ell then coffee grinds can cause a blockage after time as the horizontal piping may not have enough pitch to allow for proper drainage.
