My dishwasher water is not heating and the drying cycle isn't working either. It runs through the cycles properly but no hot water unless I run the water in the kitchen sink first. Any suggestions?

Most North American dishwashers are NOT design to "heat" the wash water, only boost its temperature on certain settings. *Starting* water temperature *to the dishwasher* is suppose to be between 120-140°F.

That is what you should be doing if the starting dishwasher fill water temperature is not up to 120-140°F.

BTW. If you use a heated wash setting and the dishwasher's starting water temperature is less than 120°F, you can expect *very* long thermal delays in the cycle as the dishwasher tries to raise the water temperature.

It can take as long as 1 minute per degree of heating needed. If a wash cycle called for 160 degree water and the wash water was only 120 degrees, it could *add* 40 minutes to the length of a wash cycle (over and above its normal wash/drain/rinse times). The colder the initial water the longer any heating delays will be!

Run your tap first!

Just started doing this. I have had it for 4 years and have never had to run the hot water in the sink first. It has a setting for delay start which we use and it runs during the night. Now the dishes are still wet in the morning and they aren't very clean unless I rinsed them very well. When I run it while awake, the water is never very hot.

Than maybe you have a problem with your hot water heater which needs looking into?
