Will Glue Stick On Latex (external) Based Painted Surface?

12/17/2005 10:19 AM buratty

Hi:

I'm brand new to this forum and have what will probably be a pretty simple question for the experts...

I purchased a Nativity Project from the folks at http://u-bild.com/ and in a nutshell, you basically cut out pre-printed patterns and arrange them on a piece of plywood, glue them down, treat them with a Hydrocote Polyshield Weather Coating (which you buy with the kit), then stake them out in your yard.

Here's a full link to the project I just described:

Now for my question... I don't want to get pre-treated plywood for the project just because I have a lot of cutting around these patterns, etc. What I do want to do is pre-treat the standard 5/8" plywood pieces with exterior latex flat white paint. I'm thinking two coats ought to do it. However, I'm concerned that the latex paint MAY INTERFERE with the glue's adhesion properties when I actually glue the patterns on the painted surface.

Is this a concern?

Sorry for the long post, but I didn't want to leave anything for 'guesswork' per se.

In advance, THANKS for any help!
