We purchased a new modular home and put it on a full basement in July 2005. We complained in August about the central air running all the time. Now that it is cold, the cold air is blowing through the home just terrible. One closet will actually freeze things to the wall! Air is blowing in under the cabinets in the kitchen to a tune of 7-10 degrees cooler than the countertop area. Master bath is also the same way. Have to keep an electric heater just to bath in there. It seems they used a primer with vapor barrier in it instead of the usual vapor barriers. We are at our wits end trying to figure this out without having to tear the home apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, we live in N.E. Iowa, 3 miles south of the Minnesota boarder-You can imagine how cold it gets here. I have the furnace at 72 degress now and it is 63 in the master bath and at the kitchen floor. The closet is reading 52 degrees! Cold air is blowing in our bedroom between the carpet and the basetrim!! We have complained many times. They've been here many times. The last time they took the siding and wrap and boards off. Just the bottom two or three feet and said look there's insulation and put it back on. As far as the basement there are three places that have gotten wet and even frost on them. Both the N.E. corner and the N.W.corner. There also seems to be a design flaw in the home. Home was designed with a recessed front door area. When we were given the specs and blueprints for the basement, they did not allow for this. It is a straight 30 x 66 basement. We have since found out that the basement should have come in for the recessed door. When it rains or snow melts it comes right throught that area into the basement. Major frost buildup and air blows in there also. We have had a home inspector and a contractor come in for their veiws. They both believe the lack of a good vapor barrier is the problem. They also advised for the workers to go into the attic and check the outside peremiter to see if the air is comming from there and down the walls. That was a no go with the company. They did not want to go up there. We were also advised to get a good attorney. I just want it warm in here

be sure to check the electrical outlets on all exterior walls. I have inperienced cold air intrusion due to not much insulation at these locations.

does your home have floor insulation? if so, your hvac registers may be leaky and not sealed properly allowing cold air to come in around the boot.
