Window Film ("Hurricane Tint") Question

06/20/2006 11:26 AM jemoore667

OK, this isn't a DIY question (this job seemed too big so we went with "professionals")...anyway, we recently had window film installed in our home, and we were told during the estimation process that structural sealant would be used to attach the film to the window frames. The installers did not remove the approx. 9/16" plastic trim around the perimeter of the interior of most of our windows, so structural sealant could not be used. Most of the information I've found on the web indicates that anchoring to the frame at least increases the protection, but some references indicate anchoring to the frame is essential for any added protection. We have not yet paid the contractor, and I am now trying to decide whether to have them come and remove the film, or just go ahead and pay for what I believe may be an inadequate installation. I gave the contractor the opportunity to redo the installation correctly, and he does not seem interested in doing so. Does anyone have an opinion or expertise they'd like to share on this subject?

Thanks so much,
James
