Winterproof a house to be left vacant - How?

03/31/2009 06:59 AM hardwork12

Hi All New to the community. I keep searching for an answer and unfortunately there is a ton of great advice for winterizing a house for the winter most of which has been done.

My question is that my wife and I are considering trying living in another state (to find work etc)but keep our residence in Massachusetts and rent at first elsewhere. I will have the house checked frequently enough to not violate my insurance rules so my insurance will remain in force.

I am looking for information on house modifications that would allow for me to completely shut the heat off (or at least not have to rely on it to keep the pipes and such from freezing (peace of mind). ANY help advice appreciated :-)
