I was attempting to put up a ceiling fan. I need assistance reconnecting the pre-existing wires from the ceiling. There are three wires coming from one side (one of which I believe is the ground wire). And four wires from the other side. I believe there were 3 wires connected, another 3 wires connected and the ground wire stood alone. I need to know if this is correct and also how to preceed with reconnecting the pre-existing wires (which 3 from which side).

You didn't happen to record how the wires were hooked up previously did you? At the very least, tell us what colors of wires are involved.
