Wood Flooring and Kids?

10/30/2005 05:50 PM meganhaileypie

We have just purchased a 1970 home that has all the original everything. We would like to replace the entire first floor shag carpeting with wood floors. We have installed laminate before and liked it, but it didn't seem terribly durable for our young kids. I am overwhelmed with all the choices for wood flooring. I love the look of pine, but it doesn't appear to be a good choice with young children. Don't think it would wear well. We have a very small budget. Can you suggest the best options?

laminate flooring is going to be the best bang for your buck, and for durability for kids.

You will want to upgrade to the best performance grade that you can afford.

each manufactirer will have different grades of laminate flooring.

NO PINE!

Definitely avoid pine....unless you love the dents and dings. lol. I would agree with the previous answer...laminate is by far the most durable. Laminate = wood is like a diamond = glass as far as durability. Sounds like you probably had an older laminate or cheaper brand...Look into some of the new higher end lines...will probably still be less expensive than wood.
