Wriring to lights

05/31/1999 09:40 PM

I have a fan w/light and a recessed light on opposite ends of the room. They both work off the same switch. I have tried putting in a new switch and either I "pop" a breaker or when one swith is on the other light goes off and when I turn the switch off both the light and the fan come on dim. What am I doing wrong ( besides trying to do this myself!!) Thanks for your help!

Your note is a little confusing. You talk about one switch but then suggest there are two switches that control these fixtures.

Please describe the wires in the switch box so we know if the swithc is first or last.

It sounds like you are running in series instead of independently. As Bob said, a little more detail on the wiring method used would be very helpful. Please include the wires for the fan and light. No reponse- no answer.......
