Hey builder, it's a little hard to visualize what you are doing. If I've guessed right, and you really can't fasten to anything, you have to build in some brace that will work. Maybe get a buddy to drop by and consult you. Don't forget, in a jam, Liquid nails and crown moulding. Make it work.
