I currently have a 2 story house and would like to put on a "2nd story ONLY addition". So the addition will be hanging over my backyard.

Has anyone ever done this and what's involved in doing this ??

There are two ways to do this. With piers or cantilevered from your house. You will have to contact your local building inspector to receive approval for either job. Many municipalities will not allow pier construction. The other way will require the use of a structural engineer to determine if your house structure will support the addition.
