? "Reproduction" Paint type for cabinet

10/31/2005 10:02 PM BAILEYHY

I have two pieces of furniture..one new pine cabinet and an old oak/misc mixture that's been stripped. I'd like to paint them in a finish like I've seen in country shoppes here in New England, I can describe it as a flat finish with a sheen. Many large furniture makers use it, I have inquired and the best answer I've gotten is "use a flat paint and finish with Minwax Satin." Tried it..not the same outcome. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
