adjusting self closing hinges on doors

10/18/2009 11:13 PM cwinstel

I am trying to adjust the self closing hinge on the door from the interior of our house that leads to our garage. The top hinge appears to have a small hole in the top front of the hinge while the bottom hinge has a pin in the spot where the hole of the top hinge is. I want to adjust it so it does not close automatically because my 81 year old mother struggles with holding the door open as she tries to walk down the steps into the garage because the door closes hard on her. She has fallen down the stairs a couple of times struggling with this door.

Hello, All self-closing hinges have a small screw, to adjust tension. Like a screen door would have.
